Young and old all took part
The clergy, cell groups and staff members had visitors in stitches of laughter at the antics that took place on stage - and off stage, when a group of young break-dancers showed the audience how it is done (with many a sigh heard of Oh, to be that supple again!). Everyone enjoyed themselves whether on stage or in the audience.
Among the items - the lay ministers showed one The Road to
Heaven with signposts et al; the Twisted Sisters, in the guise
of Sharon Nel and Maureen Lamb, gave a geriatric version of My
Favourite Things; the clergy thanked Heaven for little girls
and told everyone that Youre the one that I want; Pictures: 1) Christmas in June - The St Hugh's choir rendering their version of 'The twelve days of Christmas'. 2) Break-a-leg - That is what the young folk called their item!
Iindaba missed Lionel, a former headmaster and English teacher, while he was away, and readers have pointed out the mistakes in the last two issues - we know Lionel would have found those. The editor apologises for the mistakes and offers the lame excuse of a very painful leg in plaster which also resulted in her having to sit sideways to the computer. Yes, its not a good excuse for making so many mistakes! Lionel was chosen by Rotary to represent South Africa on their select Group Study Exchange (GSE) programme which provides individuals with experiences around the globe. Welcome home, Lionel. It's good to have you back on board! - ed
Quinton spent three-and-a-half years on the Anastasis, working in Europe and West Africa, and returned home to PE a year ago. He hopes to spend three months on the ship this time, July to September. Part of this will be doing repairs while the ship is in East London and when the ship sails to Cape Town in September, hell be involved in public relations work. While he is on the ship his accommodation and food are covered by Mercy Ships but he will need to have life insurance cover and he is asking if parishes or individuals would help him with this. Readers wanting more information about Mercy Ships or his work on them can contact him on: cell/mobile 082 696 4667 or if they have access to the web they can visit www:mercyships.org Picture: Reporting for duty - Quinton Foster who has volunteered to spend three months helping with repairs to the MV Anastasis. is needing some sponsorship.
At a gathering held in the St John the Baptist church hall, members of the various charities that benefit from the competition were given their targets of tickets to be sold. The House of Resurrection Haven has a massive target of 10 000 tickets to sell, which is over 500 more than they sold last year. Ken Simpson, the co-ordinator for the Haven, said he felt that if all the churches would help sell tickets at the various points of sale that he has arranged, then the target could be reached, but he will need a lot of help from all the parishes. He has managed to book sales points at various shopping centres and will be sending a list to all the parishes appealing for help.
Last year a total of 90 150 tickets was sold by the combined charities. Iindaba hopes the Haven sales of tickets will go a long way to help Toyota reach a combined total of 100 000 ticket sales this year. Contact Ken on tel: 041 360 6808. Golfers are warned to watch the Iindaba for the announcement of the date for that. Greg Isaacs of All Saints', Kabega Park, was the winner of the non-golfers' trophy, with many others winning wonderful prizes.
