A busy time at St Simon of Cyrene
Members of St Simon of Cyrene in Uitenhage have been very busy over the
past few months giving of their time and talents to bring joy to others.
They have made baby packs for distribution to Uitenhage hospitals;
they’ve taken duvets to an orphange in Despatch that had burnt down;
Veronica Jacobs has been teaching beading to the young folk and Lynette
Bouah has been heading up a soup kitchen to help feed hungry school
children; and they still found time to pamper their senior citizens by
giving them facials and other beauty treatments.

the local hospitals;

had burnt down; 3) Senior members of the congregation were pampered with facials, and other
beauty treatments. Gaynor is busy doing Michelle’s face. Fun at All Saints

On Friday evening 8 August, All Saints’ parishioners and friends were
entertained by a group of talented people.
Howard and Co got us tapping our toes as the rock and roll music
exploded and “The Rollers” kept the audience entertained with a number
of music pieces. They were followed by an interesting and often amusing
monologue by self-supporting assistant priest, Richard Taylor, then
George Nunes gave an operetta flavour to the evening, and had the effect
of turning the clock back for those of the older generation and Eric
(Tenor) and Douglas (Pianist) Dyer, held the audience spell bound with
their two songs, ‘Some enchanted Evening’ and ‘You raised me up’ - for
which Eric received a standing ovation.
“Dinner-for one” - always hilarious - The “humour show”, tap dancing, a
music trio, a young pianist, and many others kept us entertained
throughout the evening.

Barnardo kept the toes a-tapping at the All Saints’ concert.
Thanking God for 42 years of ministry

Once again the Anglican Women’s fellowship chose St Peter’s in Kinkelbos
as the venue for their Thanksgiving Day celebrations on 27 July. Besides
their annual time of thanksgiving they were celebrating 42 years of
ministry in this diocese.

Members from ten of the branches, including Humansdorp, travelled to be
present at the service and enjoy the fellowship. Exorbitant travel costs
kept some, such as those from Cradock, from attending. Joy and Peter
Lake, Dave and Rosemary Newcombe, and other members of St Peter’s were
there to give us a very warm welcome.
Our chaplain, Sharon Nell, conducted the service and, besides the
thanksgiving offering, groceries were brought by the branches. These
will be shared among Lucebiso crèche, St Peter’s hamper fund and Molly
Bam. The thanksgiving offering will go to the House of Resurrection
Haven and two other organisations. Branches prepared delicious dishes
for lunch after which hilarious fun was had raising money by way of a
mjikelo - the proceeds going to AWF Provincial funds.
Joan and Charles Newsham and Joy Lake (81, 84 and 87 yrs old
respectively) graced the day with their presence. Joan was the first
diocesan president of the AWF and Joy was a member of the first
executive. Myrtle Koen, past diocesan president and Lillian Daniels,
past provincial president were also present.

Fun at Spring Tea

Another Spring Tea ... but maybe not for ‘spring chickens.’ Members of
St Margaret’s in Summerstrand enjoyed tea together on Thursday afternoon
4 September when the rector, Leon Foster, visited their retirement
village. Leon has been doing the rounds, and enjoying tea with his older
parishioners who live in the various retirement villages.
The tea was for those of us who live in Dunant Park cottages and in The
Lodge, as well as our neighbours from Duncan Ferguson Park. We had a fun
quiz, a short homily and plenty of good eats. It was a time of loving
fellowship which gave all of us a chance to get to know one another better.

were members of St Margaret’s - Jean Dickin, Daphne Sims-Handcock,
Dorothy Blacklaws and Bernice Fox.

Members of the Anglican Women’s Fellowship at St Matthews, KwaMagxaki,
visited their out-station, St Francis in KwaNoxolo, to donate parcels of
used clothes for distribution to the poor.
In her message at KwaNoxolo, Nzwakie Magxaka, the vice chair, quoted
from Acts 9:36-43. She related how Dorcas was brought up in a city where
the social life was about fishing, farming and other business. Dorcas
allowed herself to be used by Jesus as a weapon of mercy. “As followers
of Jesus we have taken after Dorcas by donating to the people of St
Francis KwaNoxolo, our brothers and sisters, the gifts of love,” she
said. Later they also took parcels to Emanuel Hospice - home for many
HIV/AIDS orphans.

Palestinian Media Watch 25 Sept
Itamar Marcus and Barbara Crook report -
A music video currently broadcast on Palestinian Television denies any
historical connection between the Jewish people and Jerusalem: “Oh [Sons
of] Zion, no matter how much you dig and no matter how much you destroy,
your imaginary Temple will not come into being”. The repeated refrain,
“Al-Aqsa is ours,” is meant to emphasize this statement, as the Al-Aqsa
mosque is built on the site of the Temple, destroyed in the year 70
during Israel’s revolt against the Roman Empire.
The lyrics repeat the Palestinian fabrication that Israel is planning to
destroy the Al-Aqsa Mosque and therefore it needs protection: “Oh God,
protect Al-Aqsa, Oh Allah, Al-Aqsa is ours, [protect Al-Aqsa] from every
thief and every oppressor.” Full report on www.pmw.org.il

Anglican news
The Anglican Church is going through many challenges at
present such as: The Global Anglican Future Conference (GAFCON) being
held in the Holy Land and being attended by many bishops who are
boycotting the Lambeth Conference; The Archbishop of Canterbury saying,
the adoption of certain aspects of Sharia law in the UK "seems
unavoidable", and much more.
