Easter round and about In the traditional three hour service, the middle hour was used by the youth of St Katharine’s to replay the crucifixion of Jesus. Assistant priest, Jogra Gallant, came up with the idea of including the play to visually remind us of the passion of Christ and the youth did not disappoint her in portraying the mixed emotions of that time. The play included realistic sounds of the whipping of Jesus, Pilate washing his hands of the plot, Jesus’ march to Golgotha to the beat of a solemn drum and the hammering of the nails that held him to the cross. Those present were invited to join in the singing of a few well chosen songs but many throats could not sing at that time. All in all, the talented actors moved grown men to tears and melted the hearts of many present as they played the cruel crowd and then the sorrowful mourners. Even Satan in her best feathers was not able to overshadow the glory of God through Christ on the cross as the Hallelujah Chorus reminded all that the battle between heaven and hell was over. Satan is defeated! Amen.

She said, “At St Paul’s this year the stark decorations for Good Friday were transformed by adding beautiful white flowers for Easter Day.”
Jesus’ Resurrection can and does transform us all.

Recycled plastic Peta Louw, of All Saints’ in Kabega Park, discovered what happens to some of the plastic bottles, bags etc members of the parish bring in to be recycled. She told iindaba, “ They get made into lovely, soft, light, warm, cosy duvets and get sold at Woolworths! I’ve just bought one and it is wonderful.”
iindaba encourages parishes to collect for recycling if they are not already doing so. [ Back to top ] Quick Links: Page 1 | Page 2 | Page 3 | Page 4 | Top | Homepage |
